We currently live in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), snd every where we look there seems to be an article chronicling the rise of AI and the eventual takeover of the machines. While the analyses on how exactly AI is transforming our lives aren’t always positive due to the fears of AI devaluing creative work and undermining the gig economy, AI platforms like the Open AI software Chat- GPT and its GPT-4 can help you be better. By outsourcing some of the drudge work of day to day routines, Chat- GPT can help in not only creating a health and wellness routine but also help you stick to one.

The History of AI and CHAT- GPT

AI dates back to the 1950’s an era where computers were the size of trucks and the cold ward space race was the center science and tech research. Fast forward to the 2000s era, AI was mostly in the form of chatbots. AI assistants like Alexa and Siri were essentially a refinement of these chatbots.

Then in 2015, OpenAI released Chat GPT which saw very minimal success until 2020 when they released GPT-3 which was designed to basically combined everything that SIRI, Alexa and those internet chatbots could do for you but in a much cooler and relatable way. Fast forward to 2023 there’s a whole AI revolution mostly fueled by the newest inception of Chat GPT: GPT-4.

GPT-4 takes prompts and spits out literal magic, however the platform isn’t without errors. open AI isn’t bashful in reminding its users that the information can be inaccurate not only because the information is updated only up to 2021, but also because: machine. There have been concerns about coded bias: that technology is only as unbiased as those who build it. And since so much of tech is built and used by white people in the western world usually of the male persuasion, well one can only wonder the biases that are built into code.

With all this in mind, GPT- 4 still a VERY useful resource in your health. With some practice, you can get very good at creating prompts that give you a specialized answer better than what you’d get in a simple google search.

First, Practice Some Prompts

If you haven’t created an account on Chat GPT go ahead and do so by heading to openAI.com. On the mobile version, you’ll arrive to the home page. Tap on the menu button. From there you’ll see many other options to learn about the platform but you’ll want to tap on “Sign Up”. You’ll then be prompted to sign up using your own email or to sign up with google (I signed up using my google account, because I’m lazy. But if you have security concerns, you may not want to. I’m not a developer or a computer expert).

What makes Chat GPT more interesting than a simple google search is the way in which it answers questions. You can tell chat GPT to answer a question with a specific tone and you can even ask it to answer a question based on previously fed information. It is so creative that it can even respond to you in your mother’s tone if you play around with it a bit.

Like rather than a prompt that simply commands: “ what is the most nutritious food available”, while there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this prompt it’s limiting in showing off the sexiness of GPT- 4.

A better prompt that would both answer your question and delivers you the info in a more delightful manner could be: “considering the vegan, paleo or carnivore diet, which of these diets offers the most nutritious lifestyle? The answer should be witty and reflective of common millennial internet speak.” Again, Chat GPT is great and all but it’s still a machine which means you’d have to help it sound more human.

Okay, now that you’ve practiced some GPT- 4 prompts let’s get into the ways Chat GPT can help you be healthier by simplifying the creation of a health and wellness routine.

  1. Personalized Workout Plans:

    Chat GPT can assist you in creating a personalized workout routine tailored to your specific goals, fitness level, and preferences. It can provide exercise suggestions, recommend routines based on your available time and equipment, and offer guidance on proper form and technique. Try the following prompt: “ Create a personalized workout plan for {enter your gender and age} with a goal of {enter your fitness goal}s. All workout should be tailored for {enter your preference for home, gym, outside/ equipment or no equipment}. workouts should be {enter number of times a week you wish to workout} a week.” You can literally even tell Chat GPT to create a workout routine for someone who hates weight training and see what it spits out.

  2. Healthy Recipe Ideas

    Stuck in a recipe rut? Chat GPT can help you discover new and delicious healthy recipes to incorporate into your meal plan. From quick and easy meals to dietary-specific options, it can provide creative ideas, ingredient substitutions, and even nutritional information to support your health and wellness goals. You can even prompt chatgpt to create a workout or eating plan based on the content of your favorite health and wellness creator. I asked chatgpt to create a 7 day eating plan based on the content of Kristina Buckram-Carillo a raw vegan creator and it actually did! Now, while this may pose some issues in the area of IP and such, it’s a great way to summarize the information of some of your favorite online creators and tailor it to your needs.

  3. Mindfulness and Meditation Guidance

    Incorporating mindfulness and meditation practices into your routine can have numerous benefits for mental and emotional well-being. Chat GPT can offer mindfulness exercises, guided meditations, and tips for cultivating a regular mindfulness practice. It can provide insights on stress reduction techniques, deep breathing exercises, and ways to promote relaxation and inner calm.

  4. Accountability and Motivation:

    Building a health and wellness routine can sometimes be challenging. Chat GPT can act as a virtual accountability partner, reminding you of your goals, tracking your progress, and offering motivational support. It can provide encouragement, positive affirmations, and strategies to overcome obstacles or plateaus along the way. Open AI, the parent company of Chat- GPT offers PLENTY of integrations. You can integrate GPT- 4 with your gmail to receive messages directly in email.

  5. Sleep and Rest Optimization

    Adequate sleep and rest are essential for overall health and well-being. Chat GPT can offer tips and strategies for improving sleep quality, establishing a consistent sleep schedule, and creating a relaxing bedtime routine. It can also provide insights on the importance of rest days in your fitness routine and help you find the right balance between activity and recovery. This is where CHAT- GPT can get fun. Because it creates information based on previous information, it already knows your needs and can help you manage and adapt as you go. So you can change your goals to even optimize sleep and it’ll change your personalized routine according to your needs.

While Chat GPT can provide guidance and suggestions for creating a health and wellness routine, it's important to consult with healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nutritionists, or fitness trainers, for personalized advice and recommendations based on your individual circumstances. Keep in mind that Chat- GPT is still a machine no matter how helpful, and it should never be a replacement for the advice of experts.
